An estimated 92% of teens report going online daily. Most often used sites include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and YouTube. Social networking can broaden teens social connections, however, social networking among teens can lead to increased anxiety and depression. Teens lack self-regulation which makes them vulnerable to Facebook depression, sexting, cyber bullying, and sleep deprivation. Teens find themselves needing to be available to their peers 24/7. They may find themselves using unhealthy comparisons. As parents it is important to monitor your children’s use of social media and discuss potential concerns and dangers.

Parenting in the age of social media can be challenging and scary. For teens the constant pressure is overwhelming. Counseling can help sort through the anxiety, depression, stress that teens and families face with the increased pressures associated with growing up with social media.
